Everest Base Camp Trek

Everest Base Camp should never be compressed into a generic itinerary. This planning framework includes two acclimatisation days and a weather buffer. We tailor the final programme to fitness, flight arrangements, guide support, and risk tolerance.

Why this journey

A responsibly paced classic Khumbu trek with dedicated acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.

Prepared walkers with previous multi-day hiking experience who understand the demands of altitude, cold, and basic mountain accommodation.

Namche Bazaar beneath Mount Kongde in Nepal's Khumbu region
  • Two dedicated acclimatisation days
  • Experienced local guide and porter options
  • Clear planning for Lukla flight disruption
  • A steady route through Sherpa communities and the upper Khumbu

Day by day

A realistic planning framework

The final programme is confirmed against dates, transport, traveller readiness, and current local conditions.

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Kathmandu

Airport transfer, equipment review, permit check, and a full trek briefing with the operations team.

  2. Day 2

Fly to Lukla · trek to Phakding

Take the mountain flight from Kathmandu or seasonally Ramechhap, then begin with a shorter walk to Phakding.

  3. Day 3

    Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Follow the Dudh Koshi valley, cross suspension bridges, and make the sustained climb into Namche.

  4. Day 4

    Acclimatisation in Namche

Use a walk-high, sleep-low day for gradual adaptation, weather permitting. This is an active rest day, not a race.

  5. Day 5

    Namche to Tengboche

Traverse above the valley before descending and climbing through forest toward Tengboche.

  6. Day 6

    Tengboche to Dingboche

Continue through Pangboche into a drier, higher-altitude landscape and settle in for two nights.

  7. Day 7

    Acclimatisation in Dingboche

Take a controlled acclimatisation walk and return to rest. The guide monitors how the group is adapting.

  8. Day 8

    Dingboche to Lobuche

Walk gradually past memorials toward Lobuche, keeping the afternoon deliberately light.

  9. Day 9

    Everest Base Camp

Trek to Gorak Shep, continue to base camp when conditions and health allow, then return for the night.

  10. Day 10

Kala Patthar · descend to Pheriche

Make an optional early ascent for high-mountain views, then begin the important descent to a lower sleeping altitude.

  11. Day 11

    Pheriche to Namche

Retrace the valley through villages and forest, with a welcome return to Namche’s facilities.

  12. Day 12

    Namche to Lukla

Complete the final long walking day and stay near the airstrip for the planned morning flight.

  13. Day 13

    Fly to Kathmandu

Return by the operating airport for the season. Keep plans flexible until the mountain flight is complete.

  14. Day 14

    Weather buffer or departure

Retain a buffer before an international departure. If flights ran normally, use the day to rest or explore Kathmandu.

If your schedule allows

Worth adding around Everest Base Camp Trek

Have an extra half-day or day? Ask us whether one of these worthwhile additions can fit without making the main journey rushed. They are suggestions, not automatic package inclusions.

Namche acclimatisation

Park visitor centre

Walk to the centre above Namche for regional context and mountain views when conditions are suitable.

Khumbu villages

Khumjung, Khunde, or Thame

Your guide can select a measured acclimatisation walk through one of these Sherpa settlements.

Tengboche

Tengboche Monastery

Allow time for a respectful afternoon visit when the monastery schedule and trekking pace align.

Dingboche acclimatisation

Chhukung outing

Consider a controlled acclimatisation walk only when health, recovery, weather, and your guide support it.

Plan it realistically: These are guide-selected acclimatisation options, not bonus sights to complete at any cost. Headache, nausea, unusual fatigue, poor weather, or slow recovery always take priority.

Yes. The final pacing, hotel or lodge level, transport, guiding, and optional activities are adjusted around the traveller and current operating conditions.

Is the stated duration guaranteed?

No itinerary can override weather, health, road, trail, or flight conditions. We explain dependencies and recommend useful contingency before confirmation.

What insurance should I arrange?

Choose a policy that covers the destination, planned activities, maximum altitude where relevant, and emergency assistance. Read exclusions and insurer procedures carefully.
