Day by day

Sample itinerary

This sequence is a planning example. Final timing depends on confirmed transport, stays, activities, and local conditions.

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu–Rasuwagadhi–Kyirong

Leave Kathmandu very early, drive to Rasuwagadhi, complete Nepal–China border and immigration formalities, and continue directly to Kyirong at about 2,700 metres.

  2. Day 2

    Kyirong–Saga

Cross the Tibetan plateau toward Saga, with possible views across the Peiku Tso region, Shishapangma and the Brahmaputra valley when conditions are clear.

  3. Day 3

    Saga–Lake Mansarovar

Continue to sacred Lake Mansarovar for darshan and the permitted lake circuit by local environmental bus, with views toward Rakshastal, Chiu Gompa and Mount Kailash.

  4. Day 4

    Lake Mansarovar–Darchen

Use the morning for prayer, pooja, hawan or other permitted rituals, then drive to Darchen, the starting base for the Mount Kailash Kora.

  5. Day 5

    Darchen–Sershung–Dirapuk

Transfer to the designated Kora starting point and begin the first trekking day to Dirapuk, using basic guesthouse, tent or mud-house accommodation according to local allocation.

  6. Day 6

    Dirapuk–Drolma La–Zuthulpuk

Complete the most demanding Kora day—approximately 22 kilometres and 10–12 hours—crossing Drolma La at about 5,640 metres before descending toward Zuthulpuk.

  7. Day 7

    Zuthulpuk–Darchen–Saga

Finish the final walking section, meet the vehicle near the designated endpoint, return to Darchen and continue by road to Saga.

  8. Day 8

    Saga–Kyirong

Drive back across the Tibetan plateau to Kyirong for the final overnight before returning to Nepal.

  9. Day 9

    Kyirong–Rasuwagadhi–Kathmandu

Return to the border, complete immigration formalities and continue by road to Kathmandu, subject to border hours, road and weather conditions.
